That’s right, Metallica, the band that has performed at every sporting event known to man and put out some undeniably incredible thrash metal music back in the day, are now doing what all things in the world must do – appearing in Fortnite via an update released today (June 13).
To be fair, it sounds pretty good to have people in Fallout T-60 power armor sitting around in a mosh pit listening to James Hetfield et al belting out “Enter Sandman” loud enough to burst their helmets’ eardrums. But make sure you don’t accidentally step on anyone’s toes with your metal boots.

As announced via a blog post, Fortnite Music Festival Season 4 will feature a series of Metallica-themed sets to celebrate their performances in the mode on June 22 and 23. “Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury” is the name of their performances in the mode, and it looks like Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, and The Unforgiven will be part of the initial set list.
As you’d expect, skins for all four band members are available, along with a new emote and a new rocket track called Thrash Mountain. That being said, arguably the biggest addition is the new “PvP Battle Arena,” which will be around long after this new season ends.
Epic describes the new mode as “a musical free-for-all” where 16 players will battle it out over a four-song setlist until a winner is decided, and Fortnite players certainly haven’t experienced a setup like this before.
Speaking of Battle Royale, the update also adds the Ride the Lightning guitar to the mode, which can be used to “create an arc of lightning in the sky for your teammates to ride,” before allowing you to plummet back to Earth in an attack-style move. The Loot Island has also been revamped to look like the stage the band is using on their ongoing M72 World Tour.
So, there you have it. By the way, this season ends on August 16th, so wherever you are, if you’re so excited about this update that nothing else matters, make sure to get in the game before then.
