News culture It’s the cheapest Marvel series in the MCU: it costs almost six times less than Secret Invasion
The MCU and the television series are a love affair that has been going on since the launch of Disney Plus several years ago… and it’s clear that it’s cost the company dearly at times, literally. Luckily, Echo makes up for all of this.
A downwardly revised budget
It was only last December that the MCU laid the new foundation stone for its gigantic building: This is called Echo and takes the form of a miniseries that will air on Disney Plus. And for once, it shows part of what has been done on the SVOD platform so far: all episodes have been made available at once (instead of the usual weekly programming). There are only five episodes and the project is linked to the Marvel Spotlight label created for the occasion.
And above all, Echo breaks a real Marvel Cinematic Universe record: It’s the cheapest live-action television series! Selon Forbes, the production budget was “only” forty million dollars. If we put quotation marks, it is because the sum is obviously still considerable, It doesn’t compare to Secret Invasion and its $225 million or She-Hulk and its $212 million. Two major critical failures and beyond, She-Hulk’s outrageous budget has seen Disney increasingly squander any desire to make a possible second season.
Less but better
As a reminder, when Marvel Studios first announced its intention to produce series, the company stated that the average and planned budget would be around $25 million per episode. A staggering amount of money that was actually wagered Falcon and the Winter Sale, Moon Knight or Season 2 of Loki (around $150 million) or Wanda Vision and HawkEye (around $200 million).
Only here is through outbidding and, above all, over-productivity The audience didn’t really have time to follow him and were a bit out of breath ; In particular, Disney’s desire to release large projects quickly has limited the studios’ creativity. Even the special effects suffered terriblyWhat was immediately noticeable: a phenomenon that also applies to MCU films.
In short, Disney has obviously recognized this and seems to be rethinking its strategy a bit: from now on The MCU will do something less, but above all try to do it better and differently. For example, Deadpool 3 will be the only feature film in the Expanded Universe next year and the Marvel Spotlight label, to which Echo but also the future Blade and Daredevil Born Again are attached, was developed specifically for this more violent and darker films and series.
If we add to this the future arrival of mutants (and therefore the X-Men), the Fantastic Four or even the recent integration of Netflix’s Marvel series (like Dardevil) into the MCU, Marvel is certainly playing a crucial new card. Be continued.
