Bad news for the most creative PlayStation gamers: it’s turning a page for an excellent exclusive.
As a video game developer, it’s never easy to abandon a project that you’ve been working on for years. However, it is the tough decision that Media Molecule made. The British studio, bought by Sony in 2010, is best known for the first two Little Big Planet. But more recently, he stood out with an original Dreams creation. This PlayStation exclusive was released in 2020 and has been regularly updated ever since. But that will soon be history.
A PlayStation exclusive that gives way to a new project
In a press release published on the game’s official website, Media Molecule announced the discontinuation of tracking for Dreams. As of September 1, 2023, the game will therefore no longer be updated. In particular, this means that no more new features will be implemented. Unfortunately, the export to platforms other than the PS4 stops. dreams
As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we have made the difficult decision to end live support for Dreams after September 1st, 2023 to focus on an exciting new project. You can continue playing, creating, and sharing Dreams after September, but we will no longer be posting game updates or events. We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve put into developing Dreams – like our new content releases, Create updates, and live events – and we’re so grateful to the community for their continued trust and contributions since launch.

Dreams, a creativity stimulator that will live on
Obviously with emotions, the studio announces the end of the Dreams successor. Besides, it also reminds us that it’s more than a game, it’s a stimulator of creativity. Many PlayStation players have discovered a passion for development (gameplay, cinematics, music…). Others have been able to show their talent to the world, and some have even been hired. Only in February Moon Studios (Ori and the Blind Forest, Ori and the Will of the Wisps).
We know this won’t be an easy message for everyone, and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision – Dreams was a special project for Media Molecule, helping this burgeoning community of game developers, handymen, creatives, collaborators and dreamers to grow and prosper express. Thank you for being a part of it with us – we can’t wait for you to join us on our next adventure.

If it’s any reassurance for gamers, Media Molecule isn’t going to give up its PlayStation-exclusive baby entirely. It will always be possible to create and share. The best creations are even shared on social networks. The process will just be different after the organized server migration. Don’t worry, the studio will announce all the details in its press release. As for Tren, the last game he has to present in Dreams, you know that this one will indeed see the light of day!
