super mario bros movie Bowser knows as much about sequels as we do, but he does know what they should be.
A sequel to this year’s Super Mario Bros. movie is essentially a guarantee, as it’s the second-best-performing movie of the year behind “Barbie” and the most successful video game adaptation of all time. There’s no way we’re not going to get some sort of follow-up, especially considering Nintendo is going all out with a movie adaptation (as much as I want to forget about that Zelda movie). However, we haven’t heard any word from Nintendo or Illumination about the sequel, and it doesn’t appear that Bowser’s voice, Jack Black, has either. Black recently spoke on the Variety Awards Tour Podcast, where he shared that there’s been “radio silence” when it comes to news of a sequel.

“The only chatter I was having was myself, and I didn’t even know if I was allowed to ramble on. I kept gnashing my teeth and getting back to it.” While he hasn’t heard anything, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t thought about what a sequel could be. What does it look like. Black noted that he believes the sequel should follow the lead of Joker 2, which will apparently be a full-length musical. “Bowser’s Revenge,” Blake suggested as a possible title. “I think it should be a full musical, like Todd Phillips did in Joker 2.”
That’s no surprise for Blake, given his general musical leanings and, more importantly, his stellar performance in “Peaches,” which is sure to be a can didate for the Best Original Song Oscar next year, right?
While we have no official word yet on a Mario movie sequel, Mario himself, Chris Pratt, did say that it appears to be at least in development after it was apparently shelved due to a writers’ strike earlier this year.
