Most Star Wars fans are either celebrating (for some odd reason) or mourning the death of The Acolyte on Disney Plus earlier this month. Of course, this has sparked more discussion about the show from producers and insiders, and now we’re learning that Keanu Reeves may be involved.
We have to take this shocking revelation with a pinch of salt, as it’s only a rumor so far (and it’s unlikely we’ll get confirmation now that the show has been canceled), but renowned Hollywood insider Jeff Snyder rarely misspoke when it came to Star Wars , so there’s a good chance that conversations did take place between Reeves and Lucasfilm.

The news comes from Jeff Snyder’s Weekly (via Star Wars News Network), and this fairly reliable insider states that Reeves was actually very interested in the role that was offered, which was that of Master Thor. However, in the end, due to his commitments as a ballerina, his schedule didn’t work out, and he had to pass on the role. As we all know, Master Thor was ultimately played by Squidward star Lee Jung-jae, and he deserves all the praise for his performance.
Of course, this would have seen Keanu Reeves back on the small screen again alongside his The Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, who played a crucial role in the franchise as Jedi Master Indara, so perhaps the homage to the series was too much for audiences.
This isn’t the first time Reeves has been linked to The Believer, as he’ll be voicing Sonic the Hedgehog in theaters this Christmas. Last year, there were rumors that he would be making a cameo in the series, and those rumors likely came from scattered chatter and hints during his sit-down with Lucasfilm.
According to Snyder, the possibility of Reeves joining the Star Wars universe is still very much there, as all parties involved are reportedly interested. Now it’s just a matter of finding the right role and timing. What if James Mangold had him play the first Jedi in a Dawn of the Jedi prequel movie? I think that seems like a perfect fit for Star Wars 1, and would sell a lot of tickets.
