Nearly two years after his death, Kevin Conroy’s final appearance as Batman was truly moving.
In 2022, iconic voice actor and the man behind the Batman many of us grew up with, Danny Conroy, sadly passed away. The actor has starred in numerous projects over the years, most notably of course as Batman and Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series, reprising the role several times over the years, including in Rocksteady’s Arkham games. Conroy posthumously appeared in this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, once again as the Arkham incarnation of the character, but it was reported earlier this year that this would not be the last time he played the role. Now, footage from the latest DC animated film, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3, has been released, and it features one last look at the original version that Conroy played in the animated series all those years ago.

You can watch the clip above, which shows him fighting the Joker (played by his classic co-star Mark Hamill, who retired from the role following Conroy’s death). The two face off in Gotham as always, except this time the entire universe is crumbling around them. It’s pretty bittersweet, especially with what Batman says in the clip. As everything crumbles around them, the Joker sarcastically notes that it’s the end of the world and that Batman is spending time with him.

The caped crusader responded by saying, “I care about the Joker. I care about Gotham. I care about justice. And if this story has to end, at least I get to leave it like this… as Batman.” It’s clearly a fitting closing line, and one that will likely bring many fans to tears.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 is now available digitally.
