Eldon Ring There are quite a few super tough bosses, many of which are optional. But weeks after the game’s release, there’s still talk of a boss fight in particular. That is of course Malenia, Mikaela’s Blade Combat, which is quite an unusual skill test.
Malenia is hidden deep in a secret area that can only be reached after solving puzzles in another hidden area. If you pass all of these challenges, it’s no surprise that learning the main bosses in the area will give you a little trouble.
Like most big boss fights in Elden Ring, Malenia’s fights have two phases. But aside from her main gimmick of healing whenever she hits, her most dangerous attack in the first phase is the waterfowl dance, also known as anime nonsense.
The water bird dance is quite spectacular, and it sees Marinia leap into the air and land to perform a multi-slash whirlwind combination that resembles a sphere. Not only is the attack animation long, but she executes it in several intervals. You can dodge each of them if you’re good enough (our Malenia boss guide recommends you step back and let her finish), but most players will take a hit; hence why this is her most destructive at that stage s attack.
There is, however, a clever, shockingly simple countermeasure to the move. As Reddit user ToxicBird7 discovered, you can knock Malenia back from this attack, undoing it entirely, just by throwing a freezer pan.
When it’s connected, the freezer will force Malenia to stop, return to the ground and continue fighting normally. To make a Freezer Pot, you’ll need three items: Glintstone Artisan’s Recipe 6 (including receipt), a Ritual Pot, and two Rimed Crystal Buds.
The video above has ToxicBird7 showing where to get all the parts and make the freezer pan. When thrown, the Freezer Jar instantly produces a lot of Frost.Malenia Do Takes Frost damage, but it’s unclear why this particular item ends the attack instead of slowing it down.
If you’re battling Malenia or any of the game’s main bosses, our Elden Ring Boss walkthrough will teach you how to beat them all with ease.
