Sony doesn’t seem to have much luck with PC implementations at the moment. After the Concord debacle, LEGO Horizon Adventures also seems to be mutating into a flop.
It’s certainly commendable that Sony is paying more and more attention to the PC, but the Playstation manufacturer is currently doing something completely wrong, it seems. After the megaflop Concord (remember, the hero shooter, which left the light of day after just a few days), the player numbers of the newer releases are anything but good.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered, which many consider to be rather unnecessary anyway, has not yet managed to achieve a meager number of 2,538 simultaneous players on Steam. Until Dawn is also hanging around with only 2,607 players and now LEGO Horizon Adventures is also facing a failure. On launch day, only a meager 602 players were able to get started on Steam – catastrophic. And this despite the fact that the game definitely has its qualities and is rated positively by the few players.
This is Sony’s worst PC game launch to date, even weaker than Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which managed 610 concurrent players. And even for a LEGO title, the numbers so far are rather underground.
What is it about? Hard to say. The release date in the middle of the pre-Christmas season is certainly not a particularly sensible choice between various blockbusters. Even Farming Simulator 25 far outshines the LEGO title with over 126,000 simultaneous players. In addition, the PC community is probably still upset about the PSN account requirement for the last Sony titles.
At least it seems as if Sony needs to rethink its PC release policy a bit, especially since previous launches have been very successful. However, they were mostly scheduled a little more cleverly.
