The original life is strange developer don’t nod revealed its next game, Outcast: Ghosts of New Edena new action role-playing game.
This might be a somewhat surprising genre shift if you’re only familiar with Dontnod as the developer of the not-especially-action-oriented Life is Strange series. But the developer also backed 2018’s Vampyr, whose success was reflected in the game’s trailer. In Banshiers, you play “two skilled ghost hunters and lovers, faced with impossible choices and their dramatic consequences for the living…and the dead.”
The trailer strays slightly from lip-sync, showing off some really cool ghost designs that you might come across on your travels. According to the game’s description on Steam, you’ll play as the two characters, Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith, the former of whom became a ghost after being mortally wounded during a “disastrous last mission.”
“Hunt down ghosts as two unforgettable characters in a story-driven action RPG where your decisions have dramatic consequences,” says the game’s description on Steam. “Combine Antea’s psychic powers with Red’s arsenal to solve haunting cases and battle the supernatural.”
You’ll be equipped with a variety of gear, weapons, magic, and psychic powers to vanquish the ghosts that haunt New Eden, and you can catch the tiniest glimpse of some of the gameplay shown at the end of the trailer. Similar to previous Dontnod games, you’ll have to make “meaningful and morally ambiguous choices that affect the story, the world, and the fate of all characters, whether they live or die.”
Currently slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the game is expected to release sometime in 2023, but if you’re looking for a more specific release window, you won’t be surprised to find one, Focus Entertainment is the publisher .
