Limited Run Games has already ported titles from the catalog of the popular SEGA Mega-CD and 32X to current consoles. However, the American publisher decided to go even further by republishing games from the catalog of these two machines.

At the very least, SEGA’s Mega Drive add-ons aren’t among the most popular consoles in history. But clearly, Limited Run Games believes that there are enough people interested in these machines to make it profitable to market games on them.
Indeed, The American publisher, which specializes in limited-edition physical games, has just announced the upcoming sale of a handful of mega-CD and mega-CD 32X games. This is not about ports that are to be used on current consoles, but about games that are to be run on an original Mega Drive that is equipped with his or her add-ons. The games affected are as follows:
- Ground Zero Texas (Mega CD)
- Night trap (mega-CD)
- Night trap (Mega-CD 32X)
First in a row?
The Mega-CD and the 32X are both zones. Limited Run Games states that these different editions are “region free” and can therefore be run on any Mega CD / SEGA CD or 32X.
Because some Mega CD games are particularly rare, they are now being sold for gold on the internet. It will therefore be interesting to see if Limited Run Games will repeat the experience later with other titles from the mega-CD catalog.
Knowing that the publisher has in the past sold the soundtrack of Snatcher, Konami’s famous game that was only released on mega-CD in the West, and that the latter systematically sells for several hundred dollars when a used copy comes out. Online it seems like Limited Run clearly has a market to win.
