The work on Windows 11 continues steadily, with more and more functions and fixes, the latest operating system is constantly being improved. Microsoft also listens to user requests and brings back some long-awaited features from previous versions.
One such feature is the File Explorer tabs. In principle, they work like the tabs in your browser, only in Windows 11 Explorer. Instead of using multiple Explorer windows to display different folders, they are presented in tabs in a single window.

A test version of Windows 11 via the appropriate insider program should offer the function. First images of it have surfaced on programmer Rafael Rivera’s Twitter account as seen above, with the comment File Explorer tabs are back!
.
User Xeno (@XenoPanther) also posted a related screenshot showing what it looks like when you have many tabs open at once:
Loud WinFuture the function has not yet been confirmed by Microsoft itself. At this point, not even all Windows Insiders should have access to the feature. That’s why we can’t say yet whether the feature will actually make it into Windows 11. However, it is conceivable that the browser tabs will appear with the major function update in autumn.
The tabs in the file browser already existed in a 2017 and 2018 version of Windows 10, according to Winfuture. At that time, however, the feature did not make it past the insider phase.
Task manager also gets an update
In addition to the file manager, the task manager should also get a new look and a new function. On the one hand it should work in dark mode, on the other hand the navigation is moved to the left side and the tab text is replaced by small symbols. You can read what else is new there here:
Can file manager tabs get you moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11? Or are you already using the latest operating system? Let us know in the comments!
