Arcadegeddon is being sold as a true next-gen game with big advertising on PS5 while subtly using up-to-date keywords like 4K and ray tracing. Arcadegeddon is available in Early Access on various platforms. We used an Epic Games Store version to see what the new title from Illfonic had in store.
When we saw thatArcadegeddon was signed by the American studio Illfonic, we have to admit that our trust rating was not at the maximum. It must be said that the Colorado developers distinguished themselves by releasing the very poor Predator: Hunting Grounds last year, while the rest of their résumé had titles like Dead Alliance (a zombies shooter that scores 43% on Metacritic) is not really good. , or the PvE survival game Friday the 13th: The Game. As you can see, don’t expect a bomb on their latest project, even if the latter apparently took over some of the Battle Royale Fortnite. In fact, the rest of the title seems original after the graphic style which, with its eye-catching effects, seems clearly pumped out of the game by Epic Games.
Fortnite night
Also, since we’re talking about graphic style, you know that the game isn’t really ugly, thanks in part to the use of ray tracing for certain lighting. Don’t expect a flight simulator style spinal fracture though, nothing here lets us dive into the new generation. In fact, we quickly realize that we are facing a hyper-generic game that mixes very classic TPS gameplay with point-oriented missions. The course is not a model of its kind either. We play as a plug (recorded in English but the French connotation is still more fun), a nice guy who will help Gilly, the owner of an arcade room (which doubles as a turntable) to save this type of entertainment. In fact, the video game industry is being smashed by mga company Fun Fun Co, and to resist the oppressor, Gilly creates a new arcade game that aims to combine the best of all that exists. Unfortunately, everything is full of bugs so we’ll have to debug the game in order to save the last dark room in town.
XEROX game
Armed with our beta tester badge, we will meet various characters (apparently gang leaders) who will give us goals to complete. For example, you need to reach difficulty level 8 in under 45 minutes. Specifically, once we are immersed in the game, we will go through a series of levels interrupted with visits to a dealer (to re-equip ourselves), knowing that the level of difficulty increases with each level. The goal is to survive as long as possible. The action is pretty hectic, with around thirty weapons salvaged, each with their own RPG-style stats, but ultimately with a few different enemies. Worse still, the AI leaves much to be desired, frankly, because the robots that move us in a zigzag are content to storm over us in a straight line. The objectives in each level aren’t really more exciting as it is mostly about surviving a place when you have the time to fill a loading bar or find a key to activate a switch. In short, ultra-basic, which serves as an excuse to send us into battle. Unfortunately (twice), hard to say this activity is exciting as we are content with shooting the pile with a little bonus for headshots.
Boss boss
To add a little variety, Illfonic adds some boss fights to the soup. These are completely optional, but don’t have any particular flavor, and so far we’ve only found two different bosses (although the difficulty level changes as it depends on when we meet them. The late in the game, the more complicated it is). Likewise, the environments are not very varied, with a series of zones that can be counted and traversed back and forth on the fingers of the hand. In short, you will understand, solo is really boring. But what hurts is that the multi doesn’t really add value. With a buddy by your side, all you can do is revive yourself in the event of death. There is no active system of cooperation, you can hardly name a goal, but that is all.
Antisocial
Additionally, on all the games we played, it took an average of 5 minutes to find a sidekick via matchmaking, while 90% of the time it left the game unexpectedly. However, we will console ourselves with the opportunity to take part in some pretty fun PvP challenges, as terminals placed at the vendor allow us to have some moments of competitive fun. However, the game is clearly not oriented in that direction, and if the winner leaves with some loot, it basically remains cooperative. After all, the ultimate goal is to stay alive as long as possible in order to get the highest possible score and see our fire on the high score board proudly on the wall of the hall. The other motivation is purely cosmetic as it comes down to unlocking different skins for plug or for the pests we find in the game.
TRUST INDEX: 40% | ||||
Not a bad game, but too tasteless to come back to Despite the attractive price of $ 15, we can only advise you to approach Arcadegeddon with open eyes and with full knowledge of the facts. If the game is anything but crap in its current form, it offers absolutely nothing new and this project is really hard to get excited about. While still in Early Access, we hope that the developers can instill it with additional soul and interest in the coming weeks, otherwise it’s hard to see what might make players spend long hours there. We hope that the title will not be canceled in full bta, as was the case with many titles like Dawngate (but yes, this EA MOBA in 2014) or more recently Crucible (Amazon) or even Magic Legends (Cryptic Studios / Perfect) World). |
