Netflix‘Animated Sci-Fi Anthology Series’Love, Death & Robots“returned to the streaming service with a second season called” Issue 2 “on May 14, 2021. Once again, Netflix subscribers can expect wacky short films full of violence, sex and drugs, all of which last around 10-15 minutes.
However, many fans of the sci-fi stories with a lot of cyberpunk influence quickly notice that the newly released second season is much shorter than the premiere edition: Instead of 18 episodes as at the premiere in 2019, there are “only” 8 stories – but why is that so?

“Love, Death & Robots”, as the trailer for the new season recently made clear, has already been extended for a third season, which is then consequently called “Issue 3”. The trailer announced this at the end:

Some nasty tongues are now claiming that all episodes from “Issue 3″ have already been completed and that the streaming service Netflix is ”holding back” a publication.
It is more likely that the new episodes from “Issue 3” are already in production, but not yet finished. With animation of this caliber, the production is associated with considerable effort. In addition, the corona pandemic has most likely caused delays or made production more difficult.
A publication of 8 episodes at this point in time will therefore shorten the waiting time. Netflix has just published the episodes that are already finished. If, on the other hand, “Issue 2” of “Love, Death & Robots” had consisted of 16 episodes, viewers of the streaming service would have had to wait longer for them to appear.
