BattleBit Remastereda block shooter made by just four people, has soared to the top of Steam’s bestseller list, surpassing the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and starry sky.
Some people like to keep talking about graphics as if they’re the most important thing in any game, but we actually all know they’re mostly trivial. This has recently been demonstrated in a very effective way on Steam, as the best-selling game on Steam right now is a game called BattleBit Remastered, which is a “low-poly massively multiplayer FPS that supports 254 player”. One look at it, and you might judge judgmentally that it looks like a game from a few console generations ago, but there’s clearly something that has caught on with fans.
As PCGamer points out, it’s important to note that Steam ranks bestsellers by revenue, not number of copies sold. The game costs just £12.79, which makes the achievement all the more impressive, as it means it’s ahead of Starfield (seventh at the time of writing), Cyberpunk 2077 (fifth), Steam Deck ( No. 4) earned more titles) and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (No. 2), the last of which was free to play.
Starfield is clearly in the top 10 due to its recent reveal, which will obviously get people excited, and Cyberpunk 2077 is now halved, which explains – Steam Deck is also expensive, so it’s not a surprise either.
BattleBit just launched this week, entering Early Access as standard for many games of its kind. Reviews so far have been overwhelmingly positive, with over 7,000 players giving their opinion on the game, with some saying “If Battlefield is good, it’s Battlefield”. For context, Battlefield 2042 has generally received negative reviews from fans, even though its fifth season won’t be its last.
Essentially, if you’re looking for something to fill that battlefield-shaped hole in your heart, this is the game for you, with destructible environments, massive scale, and vehicles and more.
