news culture M3GAN: Sequel already in development to event horror film?
You may have heard about it, you may have even seen it in cinemas: M3GAN is a horror movie that was recently released in December. It just revisits a familiar theme – that of the killer doll – and a franchise may be on the way.
Chucky 2.0
Horror cinema has always taken a malicious delight in taking childish elements to make others horrific. Among other things, dolls form a favorite domain and it must be admitted that some have this little something that is not very reassuring: After the Chucky or even Annabelle saga, another toy is currently making headlines.
His – or rather her – name is Megan and he wants to be an artificial intelligence-enhanced automaton designed by a robotics expert who simply wanted to give her niece a companion. So yes, Remember this is the M3GAN movie released December 28th, co-produced by James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring, Saw) and directed by Gerard Johnstone. It just so happens that a sequel could see the light of day… and not only.
Version Maxi Best of Sauce Ketchup
As you can imagine, Megan may seem harmless at first, but her heightened violence quickly takes over and things go awry. A concept that appealed to the public, which despite everything seems to have been stalled a bit by Universal.
However, The trailer caused quite a stir online, forcing Universal to revise the formula to soften it up a bit. “I understand teenagers chimed in when the trailer went viral and you want them to be able to see it.”admits the screenwriter.
However, she drops an interesting tidbit: “There should be an uncensored version at some point. Heard it’s on the way.” M3GAN could well come back in a bloodier version with more victims. And besides, since we’re talking about a return, a sequel is definitely encouraged.
R3NAUT
It’s director Gerard Johnstone, still at the Deadline mic, who indulged in some confidences:
How could I not be (eager for a sequel ed.)? Now that the film is done and people are making it their own, we have so many ideas and there are so many facets of M3gan’s personality that we would like to explore. I am convinced that there is still a lot to do and that M3gan still has a lot to say.
(…) I would like to do another one. Hopefully that will happen soon while the film is still fresh in the minds of the public.
So to see. Have you seen M3GAN in the cinema and if so, what do you think of it?
