The feature allows you to display videos in a small window that always remains in the foreground. This is particularly useful if, for example, you look at a video tutorial and at the same time want to make notes. What is Apple's image-in-image function?
The image-in-picture feature is a powerful multitasking tool that Apple has introduced with MacOS Sierra. It allows you to play a video in a small window that always stays in the foreground, even if you switch to another app or a new tab.

You can move the window into every corner of your screen by holding the command button while moving it. The size of the window can also be adjusted by pulling the corners or edges.
Note: The image-in-image function is only available in Safari and supports videos from pages such as YouTube and Vimeo.
Use picture-in picture function

Open the Safari browser on your Mac and seek the video that you want to watch. Most of the time, the symbol for image-in-image mode is displayed in the right corner of the video screen next to the AirPlay symbol.

If you are on YouTube, the image-in-picture icon is not displayed on the video screen. To activate it, you have to right -click on the video instead and then with the left mouse button on the same place. A context menu appears on it in which you can select “Start Bild-in-picture”.
