Do you want to feel really old? One of the classics of the story-based open world genre is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Uff, when it’s game anniversaries, you first notice that you’ve gotten a little old. A true genre classic that set standards for its time, Mafia by Illusion Softworks was released on August 28, 2002. The venerable series is thus celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The game was developed by Illusion Softworks from the Czech Republic under the thumb of Daniel Vavra, who has since set up a new team with Warhorse Studios, which also caused a stir with the non-fantasy medieval role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
But back to the topic: on the occasion of that 20th anniversary, Publisher 2K is donating. You get from September 1st to September 5th, the original Mafia for free on Steam
By the way, Mafia got two successors. Mafia II was released in August 2010 and was largely enthusiastically received, Mafia III followed in 2016 and was no longer able to build on the success of its predecessors. With Mafia: Definitive Edition, a remake of the first game was released in 2020.
