Amy Hennig, one of the creators of Uncharted, will put her expertise at the service of Marvel to develop a promising video game.
Amy Hennig was pushed out by Naughty Dog and is now on her own two feet with her own studio. Skydance Media. Such is the aura of this great lady that Disney entrusted her with two of its most ambitious projects: a Star Wars game and, above all, an adaptation with Black Panther and Captain America. Three years after announcing this promising Marvel game on paper, the young studio has finally shown the first images and revealed the name. Oh, and we finally have a release window.
The ultimate Marvel game?
It was a particularly anticipated announcement, but hardly anyone would have predicted it for State of Unreal 2024. At the annual conference dedicated to the Unreal Engine, Skydance Media finally lifted the veil on its first game: Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra. The name was leaked a few days ago, but the surprise remains. The event allowed us to discover the engine in action, while a cinematic trailer finally showed off the design of Captain America and Black Panther. No nonsense, as the Americans would say, everything happens in real time and with images in the game. Suffice to say, Unreal Engine 5’s little magic is clearly having an impact. The surprise was all the more pleasant when a release window finally emerged. The appointment will take place in 2025, with no platform announced at this time.
As a reminder, there are four playable characters in this action narrative game. Starting with the two stars: Steve Rogers aka Captain America and Azzuri, the grandfather of T’Challa and the Black Panther from World War II, played here by Khary Payton, known for his role as Ezekiel in the series The Walking Dead. Next to them are Gabriel Jones, an American soldier and member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, leader of the Wakandan spy network. Only the two superheroes were revealed in a very cinematic trailer worthy of a Marvel production. When it comes to facial animations, graphics and particularly realistic environments, Skydance risks setting the bar very high. Finally the ultimate Marvel adaptation? It looks like it’s going well, but we’ll wait to discover the gameplay. See you in the coming months for more on Marvel 1943: Rise of the Hydra.
