Marvel Rivals Season 2 reveals new characters, team ability changes, and competitive adjustments, now with an official release date.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 — A Highly Anticipated Update

Marvel Rivals Season 2 is one of the most highly anticipated updates for the free-to-play Overwatch-style shooter, bringing some of the most requested changes from the community. The update introduces two new characters: Emma Frost and the villain Ultron. NetEase Games has officially confirmed that the new season will launch on April 11.

This major update comes with a key structural change—starting from Season 3, the duration of each season will be reduced from three months to two. However, Season 2 itself promises a wealth of content to keep players engaged, including new heroes, ability adjustments, and competitive mode changes.

What’s New in Season 2?

One of the biggest additions is Emma Frost, who joins the roster as a Vanguard hero from day one. With her telepathic abilities and diamond form, she can shield allies and strike with powerful attacks. Ultron will be introduced later in the mid-season update (Season 2.5), though his role and abilities remain undisclosed.

Other additions include new costume variants for characters like Psylocke and Luna Snow, as well as a new gifting system that allows players to send skins and bundles to friends, with a daily limit of five gifts.

For the first time, team abilities will undergo significant modifications—some combinations will be removed, while new ones will be introduced. Notable new synergies include:

  • Emma Frost with Psylocke or Magneto
  • Doctor Strange with Scarlet Witch
  • Captain America with Winter Soldier

Several heroes will also receive balance changes. Scarlet Witch, Rocket Raccoon, and Moon Knight will be buffed, while Loki and Adam Warlock will have their AoE healing reduced. Doctor Strange’s offensive power will be nerfed, but his durability will increase.

Competitive Mode Adjustments

  • Weekly missions will be added alongside daily quests, though Chrono Tokens will be redistributed rather than increased.
  • A major rank reset will push players down by nine divisions at the start of the season.
  • Competitive play will see major structural changes:
    • The minimum level requirement for ranked matches will increase from 10 to 15.
    • The pick-and-ban system will be introduced starting at Gold 3 rank.
    • Duo queue restrictions will apply at higher ranks.
    • Match rating will focus more on individual performanceensuring fairer competition.

Marvel Rivals remains free-to-play with microtransactions and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
