The big leak surrounding Insomniac Games seems to confirm plans for an unexpected game mode for the current Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 next year.
Insomniac Games was the victim of a hacker attack – and it recently caused a huge leak after it was apparently unwilling to meet a ransom demand. In the course of this, a number of details about Marvel’s Wolverine became known and the development studio’s timetable with five games until 2030 was revealed – including Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. In the incredibly large number of files there are apparently also plans for the current Spider-Man 2 that one would not necessarily have expected.
According to new reports, the leak shows that Insomniac is planning a new mode for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the coming year 2024 – namely an online mode. Since then, fans in the community have been eagerly speculating about how Insomniac could integrate such an online component into the actual single-player title. In any case, specific details beyond the mere planning for such an online mode have not yet been made public by the leak. The structure and gameplay of this game mode – should it actually come – remain to be seen.
An online mode is not just planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The leak also reveals corresponding plans for Marvel’s Wolverine and the next X-Men game, which are reportedly scheduled to be released in 2026 and 2028. In addition to the Venom spin-off planned for 2025, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 and a new Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac is also said to have two completely new IPs in the works, which are scheduled to be published in 2031 and 2035.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 20th of this year and has enjoyed many successes since then. The title sold over five million copies and is considered Sony’s most successful exclusive title of 2023. The reviews were also largely excellent.
We will keep you updated on further developments of a possible online mode for the game!
