Insomniac Games has released a new update for the blockbuster Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which includes, among other things, New Game+. However, not everything went according to plan, as a special developer menu accidentally found its way into the update.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players can finally get the long-awaited major update, which includes New Game+, but also other features such as mission replay, new spider suits, time of day options and accessibility options. Completely unintentionally, a developer menu was also included in the update for the live version of the game.
Insomniac Games is now warning via social media not to use this menu, which is easily accessible thanks to the update. The debug menu, which was unintentionally present in game version 1,002,000, can be found and used with just a few clicks. This allows you to quickly jump through the chapters of the game, use cheats and view performance details. Even though these are all necessary and useful functions for the game’s developers, they are actually not intended for gamers’ eyes.
The debug menu also provides a more concrete indication of a larger DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Some users have already found chapters that can be assigned to new missions that are not included in the main game. This is obviously about the long-time adversary Beetle. Dataminers had already found corresponding clues at the beginning of the year, with increasing signs that it was probably the Janice Lincoln version, which made its debut in the Marvel comics in 2010. The DLC speculations are now receiving new fuel, even if an official announcement is still pending.
In any case, Insomniac Games points out that the debug menu was logically unintentionally included in the patch. A corresponding hotfix should remove this as soon as possible. Players should not use the menu because it can cause problems with save states. If your saves are sacred to you, it’s better to keep your hands off them.
