The 2021 PlayStation Showcase announced Marvel’s Wolverine, a new action game from Insomniac Games that has since been suspiciously quiet. An insider is now unpacking new information – and mentions, among other things, the possible release period.
Marvel’s Wolverine has been floating a little under the radar since it was announced at PlayStation Showcase 2021, after all the developers at Insomniac Games haven’t really released any new information or gameplay impressions since then. Anyone who has been worried about this can rest easy: Things are moving forward!
At least that’s what Jeff Grubb, one of the most renowned insiders in the gaming scene, suggests. In a new stream he now gave some information that was brought to him. Among other things, Grubb says that Insomniac Games is aiming for a Mature aka M rating for Wolverine. As a result, the game will get tougher, which certainly fits the Marvel character and would exclude younger gamers in this respect.
It goes on to say that the developers are actively working to avoid mentioning Wolverine from the Fox movies; one would like to explicitly distance oneself from the character of the film. The new Wolverine action game should stand on its own two feet. Accordingly, the plot should also be set before he joins the X-Men and you will have to do without well-known heroes from this group such as Cyclops or Jean Grey.
Overall, the gameplay should be a bit more linear and not entirely based on an open game world like the Spider-Man series. It goes on to say that inspiration is drawn from the semi-open setting of God of War.
And when will Marvel’s Wolverine finally appear? If a release in autumn 2024 was conceivable to date, Grubb has heard that it could now be 2025 – but that could still change depending on the development process. If you consider that Insomniac will first publish Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in autumn 2023 and is therefore also busy elsewhere, the indication of 2025 seems to be realistic at the moment.
