Warner and DC Studios have high hopes for the franchise The Batman with just one film. The film released in 2022 was a real success, and the company wasted no time in expanding this universe with various projects. However, many of them have been archived over time.
Now, the director Matt Reeves He explained in an interview with the American media Entertainment Weekly the real reason why Warner ultimately decided to scrap several spin-offs centered on various important Gotham locations in recent months.
“While we were writing The Batman, I was like, ‘Hey, you know what? I think there are some really cool shows we could do.’ In fact, that’s the reason I wanted to do our deal with Warner Bros. But then HBO was like, ‘We like what you’re doing, and we want to lean more into the main characters. ‘”
According to Reeves, Warner initially had no problem developing all these series and films derived from The Batman, but ultimately HBO Max chose to focus only on projects related to important characters from the Batman franchise.
Many projects were scrapped, while others have been maintained with the aim of surprising the public, as is the case of The Penguin, a series that is set to be one of HBO Max’s biggest gems and is scheduled to launch on September 19, 2024.
