For years, Steam was the undisputed top dog among digital providers of PC players – until the Epic Games Store started. Epic proceeded very aggressively and not only asked developers and publishers to share in the revenue, but also secured a number of exclusive games in the PC sector for a fee.
Above all, that caused a lot of discussion and in the middle of it was Metro Exodus. The latest part of the shooter series from 4A Games was already on Steam, however, pre-orders were canceled relatively shortly before the release and the game was finally published exclusively for the PC in the Epic Games Store.
Consequence: A real shitstorm broke out among fans of the franchise and quite a few gamers even called for the boycott of the title after it avoided Steam. But things turned out differently and the PC version in the Epic Games Store proved to be the most successful PC representative in the shooter series.
