After the release of Metroid Prime Remastered for the switch, fans of the franchise can now look forward to another classic on the current console: Metroid Fusion is also coming to the current platform – thanks to Switch Online.
It wasn’t that long ago that Nintendo promised Game Boy titles for its own Switch Online + Expansion Pass service in the future – and as part of this, a Metroid classic is now coming to the current console. Next week, the GBA title Metroid Fusion will be available via the service for subscribers.
Originally released in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance, the classic will then be available for download on Nintendo Switch Online on March 9, 2023. With this, Nintendo once again celebrates the release of Metroid Prime Remastered last month. The GBA classic is a 2D series offshoot in which you once again slip into the role of Samus Aran.
Gameplay in Metroid Fusion is quite different from other Metroid games. On a hostile planet, you’re investigating a huge research facility that’s infested with X-Parasites. You must now master this threat on SR388, whereby various power-ups should also be available to you.
Metroid Fusion was considered a massive advancement of the 2D design from Super Metroid. The title was released on the same day as Metroid Prime; both titles were also linked. It remains to be seen whether this connectivity will also be available on the Switch in the future, now that Metroid Fusion will also be available shortly thanks to Switch Online.
The bottom line is that all main parts of the Metroid series can now be played on the switch. Starting with Metroid from the NES to Metroid 2: Return of Samus from the Game Boy to Super Metroid on the SNES and most recently Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dead on the Switch, all titles are now available.
