That’s right, Metroid fans, Nintendo has finally officially announced Metroid Prime 4, and it even has a fancy subtitle.
It’s been a few years since the last Metroid Prime 4 update, but the game was finally revealed during today’s final game presentation at the Nintendo Direct. The sequel, titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, tells the story of Samus Aran’s return in 2025, and yes, despite rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2, it will be released on the current Nintendo Switch, so you don’t have to worry about buying a new console in order to play it.
The trailer shows off the gameplay, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Prime game! As with previous games, it’s once again played in first-person, and you’ll be doing a lot of blasting. It also looks like Samus will be involved in some kind of space war, as there’s a lot of shooting and destruction in the trailer. Of course, her classic morph ball abilities are back, too, but other than that, it doesn’t really show off a whole lot new.
The film does end with Samus appearing on a new alien planet that looks very similar to the one in James Cameron’s Avatar, but th is felt more like a tease of the future than an actual reveal. We don’t have to worry about that, though, and can just be thankful that Metroid Prime 4 is finally coming next year.
