The discussion about the connection between video games and artificial intelligence is probably as old as the concepts themselves. Microsoft is now taking a big step towards the integration of AI and letting the copilot look over your shoulder while you play and provide assistance.
As part of a presentation on artificial intelligence, Microsoft showed how AI could support us gamers in our favorite hobby in the future. This time it’s not about NPCs, which appear more lifelike thanks to AI and react to the player, but about a somewhat more direct approach.

In the video demo, when the game starts, the AI reports directly and asks whether the user wants to play a round of Minecraft. When he then admits that he doesn’t know exactly how to craft a sword, the copilot not only explains to him without being asked what resources he needs, but also navigates him through his own inventory. The AI’s speech pattern not only sounds exactly like a human, but it also sees what’s going on on the screen and in the game.
The whole thing is somehow reminiscent of the friend who looks over your shoulder while playing and says things like “When the boss swings, you have to get out of the way!”. Or to the legendary Microsoft Office assistant Karl Staple: “It seems like you want to craft a sword. Do you need help?” At least this would eliminate the need to search for solutions on the internet.

According to Microsoft, the Copilot should not send any data to a cloud or similar for this purpose, but rather keep all information on the device.
Microsoft has not yet revealed when exactly the copilot will be introduced in Minecraft. Until then, we will have to continue to find our solutions ourselves from the Internet.
This year we are once again cooperating with the BSI, the Federal Office for Information Security. This time we look at the very exciting and current topic of artificial intelligence. Pirmin welcomes Annika RĂĽll from BSI to the studio. The two talk about numerous AI topics such as chatbots and deepfakes. Above all, they look at the dangers associated with this new technology and discuss how you can protect yourself from them.
