after recent comments red fall Game Designer Harvey Smith About Microsoft Don’t want Redfall ps5the company said it had not “removed any games from PlayStation.”
In a recent interview with IGN France, Smith spoke about the transition to Microsoft ownership, noting that once acquired it “was a change. [a] Cap ital C,” (thanks to Eurogamer). “They came in and said ‘no PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass’. This comes after Sony repeatedly pushed that Microsoft was taking the games away. Now, in a statement to Eurogamer, Microsoft said it wouldn’t be doing so, as evidenced by Bethesda’s releases of titles like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo is still on PS5.
“We have not pulled any games from PlayStation,” Microsoft said in a statement. “In fact, since we acquired ZeniMax, we’ve expanded our footprint on the Sony PlayStation, and our first two titles since closing were PlayStation 5 exclusives. Since we closed Minecraft, we’ve done Same thing as we expand the scope of that franchise.
“All games that were available on PlayStation when we acquired ZeniMax in March 2021 are still available on PlayStation, and we continue to make content updates on PlayStation and PC. We have always said that future decisions on whether to distribute ZeniMax games to other consoles will be As the case may be.”
Now it’s clear that both Deathloop and Ghostwire are console exclusives for a limited time only, with the former now available on Xbox and the latter coming to the platform soon. Sony talks more about games like Starfield, which is an Xbox exclusive to consoles, but a PlayStation version was never announced, so it’s debatable whether Microsoft actually took anything from Sony.
That’s largely because Sony wanted to release Call of Duty on the PlayStation, but Microsoft has been trying to reach a deal to keep the series on the PlayStation console. The U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority also recently concluded that Microsoft would have little incentive to keep CoD away from competing consoles if the merger happened, but all of that is still up in the air.
