If you’re comparing iconic game designer Shigeru Miyamoto to equally iconic film director Steven Spielberg, stop, he doesn’t like that.
For some reason, everyone loves comparing every aspect of video games to movies, even if it doesn’t make any sense. Shigeru Miyamoto’s classic is the Spielberg comparison, which dates back to 1996. But in a recent interview with GameSpot, it turns out that Mario’s eclectic father (and possibly Bowser Jr.’s mother) isn’t doing that. Don’t want people to compare (thanks GamesRadar).
“As you say, I’ve also been called the Spielberg of the gaming world,” Miyamoto told GameSpot, continuing, “but I actually don’t like that. I’m Miyamoto. Miyamoto is Miyamoto, Nintendo It’s Nintendo. But, I do feel honored to be compared to Disney. But having said that, rather than comparing Nintendo to Disney, I feel like Disney in a way, especially for families, [represents] Let the family feel at ease. ”
Much of the interview with the developer was actually about the time he spent at the recently opened Super Nintendo World at the Universal Studios Hollywood park. Miyamoto, being the odd man out, notices that this big building – presumably a castle – is something he wants to climb up to, but obviously this is real life and not a video game, so you can’t really do that.
Interestingly, when asked about it being called Super Nintendo World, but currently mostly Mario-themed, Miyamoto did say that there were discussions about “adding other IPs in there”, and cited Splatoon as an example. We do know that Universal Studios Japan has a Donkey Kong-themed ride, and he’s technically a Mario character, but a Splatoon-themed section would be pretty fresh too. Now they just need to open a park in the UK.
