Dark Souls 2's scary lights may one day regain its glorious debut.
If you have been following the work of FromSoftware, you should be very familiar Dark Souls 2 Downgrade crash. When the game first launched, the developers showed an impressive next-generation lighting system.
Dark areas are considered a major part of gameplay, and players must equip a torch to navigate. It's unforgettable that this impressive lighting engine didn't end up in the final game, but fans have been wondering if one day a new FromSoftware game will be able to replicate it.
However, we may not have to wait because modder shocked The "First Sin" scholar edition on a PC is being used to replicate the original lighting model. Stayd is an artist and graphic programmer who intends to bring these enhancements to all areas of the game.
So far, Stayd has been sharing progress summaries, showing before and after shooting of some of the most well-known areas in the game, such as Hyde's Tower of Flames, Amana Shrine, etc.
In particular, Shaded Woods compares lenses easily one generation apart. The lighting is more natural, avoiding the green filters used in the original version. It can also help make textures more visible, especially when looking at the protagonist model.
This is very close to the photorealistic requirements of FromSoftware for the original photos, and we hope that we can start playing as soon as possible.
If you're interested in seeing more, Stayd has a Twitch channel, where they live stream the process live.
