At the end of this year’s Call of Duty: League esports tournament, Activision delivers on its promise to share about Modern Warfare 2. While this only brings us an announcement, this time we at least have some solid information.
First, we got our first look at Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer…in the form of a flyby on one of the game’s 6v6 maps: Marina Bay Grand Prix.
Call of Duty: Next
Of course, the real news is the all-encompassing Call of Duty: The Next Event. The showcase, scheduled for Thursday, September 15, will focus entirely on the Call of Duty game. It will showcase proper Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, Warzone 2 details and the future of the series, some news from Warzone Mobile, and live Modern Warfare 2 gameplay.
Activision says you should expect other surprises too. The event is very close to the game’s launch. That said, it at least guarantees that we’ll have plenty of information about the game. Call of Duty: Next Time also happens a day before the game’s beta begins.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta date
Activision has finally revealed the timeline for the Modern Warfare 2 beta. The dates are pretty much the same as last month’s leak, and they follow a similar setup to previous Call of Duty betas, as this is a tiered rollout, with PlayStation and pre-order players first.
The Modern Warfare 2 beta runs over two weekends. first, September 16-20, is exclusive to PlayStation. Pre-orders on PlayStation will be live from September 16-17, and the beta will be available for the remainder of that period.
The second weekend is a cross-platform beta, coming to PC and Xbox.this happened September 22-26. Once again, players who pre-ordered on PC and Xbox can get early access on September 22-23, before opening the beta for the rest of that period.
The second weekend is also coming to PlayStation, open to all players. Beyond that, Infinity Ward hasn’t detailed what players can play in the beta.
That said, the developers confirmed that it will include standard 6v6 multiplayer, as well as other experiences on the larger map – possibly with reference to Ground War. You can usually expect a multiplayer showcase event to showcase what you’ll be playing the next day.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on October 28.
