The Subnautica makers of Unknown Worlds have some hopes in their new baby Moonbreaker and if necessary, take rigorous action. So now the complete monetization has been kicked into the bin.
Moonbreaker is a turn-based digital miniatures tabletop tactics game set in a rich sci-fi universe by Brandon Sanderson and was released into Early Access on September 29th on Steam. Actually, the game should be financed by premium currencies and loot boxes, but developer Unknown Worlds has now completely thrown the entire monetization model out of the game – at least for the time being.
“Early Access is a time for us to experiment and improve the game, and monetization in its current form has compromised that goal,” the developers said in a statement. “So we’re removing them to focus on making the best game we can before we leave Early Access.”
Player purchases are fully refunded and all units are now automatically unlocked at the start of each new season. Of course, that doesn’t mean it will always stay that way. But at least as long as the game is in Early Access, you will be spared microtransactions. It remains to be seen what the financing model will look like after the official launch.
