The Boss

more than 20 hours in a single weekend. and increasing

hours, Increasing, single, weekend

Last Friday, January 17, 2025, was meant to be a quiet day, at least as much as possible after playing several hours of Assassin's Creed Shadows at an official Ubisoft event. Impressions on January 23. The plan was to revisit Diablo IV in preparation for the Season of Sorcery. But everything went wrong at the last moment.

It had been weeks since Warframe was on my mind due to the announcement of the 1999 update of The Game Awards 2024. Also because I am a little disappointed with my main looter-shooters: The Division 2 and Destiny 2. Both are leaving something to be desired in the way their stories develop. It is not the first time that I think of the Digital Extremes game as an alternative, nor have I been so disappointed before with the Ubisoft and Bungie deliveries. So I fell.

Just a little bit, what can happen?

The quick taste of Warframe while downloading Diablo IV It has become the 23 hours that I have accumulated at the time of writing these words. That is, almost the entire weekend. Although I knew there were risks of getting hooked, I didn't imagine I would do it this way. And the culprits are the armor or the character design.

The game never convinced me. Maybe because I hadn't seen how incredible their worlds, like Deimos, can be. Although the main reason has always been the design of the armor. I don't like them, not even now. I understand the biopunk and dark futuristic fantasy thing, but I just don't like them. And even if you don't believe it, this has always been the only wall that has separated me from Warframe.

I have waited 12 years to tolerate the design of the characters and discover a huge universe. Not as much as Warhammer 40kanother of my “recent” passions, but enough to overwhelm any player who takes his first steps in 2025. And I will be honest in this sense: I have not wanted to look. What I have seen is too much.

I have looked askance into the abyss of Warframethis one looked back at me and I didn't like it… but I don't say that in a bad way. It has an alarming amount of content. It has a good range of missions (which in the end we all do running like crazy), locations, customization… Each planet has quite a few missions and special objectives, such as boss fights to open routes to other planets and moons.

I'm too new to understand anything and I'm going to take it easy, like Warhammer 40K. But I do know that I really like playing Warframe. I love that it offers so many characters with their own styles and abilities, there are also different missions than usual, which is to advance with your character destroying dozens of enemies.

There are space combats with an exoskeleton and a machine gun, another in Deimos where you control a mecha from the “Ancient Wars” and I have it on good authority that more special missions like these still await me. In addition, it usually mixes missions in open worlds with the classic dungeons. In games like The Division 2 y Destiny 2 They are usually linear, but in Warframe they are small open maps that allow exploration… although without much reward, it must be said. And the cutscenes are usually amazing!

Warframe is here to stay… at least for a while

I'm not saying that the Digital Extremes game is a panacea. It has things that I don't like, either because they are wrong, because of my ignorance and/or personal taste; and most veteran players go on autopilot. Hazards of starting so late. I also don't think it can replace The Division. Destiny's case depends entirely on Bungie. But there is no doubt that it has fascinated me.

I don't know how long this fever will last and if it will eventually become chronic. It is a process that usually takes me a long time and is currently shared Warframe y Escape From Tarkov. Lucky I was able to park Path of Exile 2. And I very much fear that Monster Hunter Wilds will be added soon. All this with Assassin’s Creed Shadows just around the corner and the usual ones (Helldivers 2, Space Marine 2, Diablo IV…) releasing content left and right in 2025. It's only January and I'm already up to my neck.

My passion for speedruns has been rekindled by these crazy and amazing challenges: from Elden Ring with a saxophone to Super Mario 64 without jumping

Is it wise to start Warframe in 2025? I think not, unless you have nothing to play now and in the near future or you don't mind progressing slower than usual due to alternating with other games. In any case, I no longer have any possible salvation. It's here to stay… at least for a while. If you are a veteran and have made it this far: any advice? Recommendations?
