Since Mortal Kombat 1 launched last fall, beat ’em up players have been eagerly awaiting a feature: cross-play. Now the time has finally come!
The wait for Mortal Kombat 1’s long-awaited cross-play feature is finally over. The developers at NetherRealm Studios have now announced a fresh update that will be released for the fighting game in the new week. Then cross-play – or in this case “Krossplay” – will finally be available and enable cross-platform play.
In the future, gamers will be able to play against each other on the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The makers initially left further details open; these are expected to be announced at the beginning of the week.
The cross-play feature is quite important for Mortal Kombat 1, as its current competitors Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 each have such functionality right from the start. Fans of the Mortal Kombat series also criticize NetherRealm for the late delivery of the function and sometimes describe it as “too little” and “too late”.
Last November, Mortal Kombat 1 sold over three million copies. The title is also regularly expanded with new content. Next week there will be new fighters for the brawler, including John Cena’s Peacemaker. In addition, a female version of Johnny Cage, named Janet Cage, enters the game.
The Krossplay update for Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on February 28, 2024.
