Motorola is expanding its range of smartphones and has covered all device variants from the mid-range to the flagship in the Edge 30 series. This is how the 5 models differ.
Few manufacturers offer such an extensive range of smartphones as Motorola does. This becomes particularly clear with the example of the new Edge series: the manufacturer offers five devices ranging in specification from the middle class to the upper class. We show you the most important differences between Edge 30, Edge 30 Pro, Edge 30 Ultra as well as Edge 30 Fusion and Edge 30 Neo.
Display
Even the display shows clear differences between the devices. The Edge 30 Neo has the smallest display at 6.3 inches, while the Edge 30 Pro and Ultra have the largest screens at 6.7 inches each. The displays of the two top models are otherwise exactly the same: It is an OLED panel with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, which of course also supports HDR.
The screens of the other three devices also have a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and are all OLED panels. Screens are flat on the Edge 30 Pro, Neo, and base model; the Edge 30 Fusion and Ultra each come with side-curved screens. The refresh rate is 144 Hertz for all models, the only exception being the Edge 30 Neo with a 120 Hz panel.
Otherwise, the respective display quality of the screens shouldn’t really differ and should be good for all five models. It should also be noted that the screen on all five devices is interrupted at the top center by a camera cutout. It is circular, not pill-shaped.
processor and memory
Let’s start small: The Snapdragon 695 5G built into the Motorola Edge 30 Neo is by no means a bad processor, and it’s certainly not old: It was introduced at the end of 2021 and is one of the processors from the upper middle class. It is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, which unfortunately is only UFS 2.2.
The Edge 30 uses a Snapdragon 778G+ 5G, which is also in the upper middle class. The additional letter G stands for gaming and points to the accelerated graphics card cores in this processor. There is also 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
In third place in terms of performance we find the Edge 30 Fusion. Motorola has installed a Snapdragon 888+ 5G here – a top processor from last year. He moves in the high-end area; this means that it is among the best chips on the market. Unfortunately, there is only 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory.
The Edge 30 Pro and Ultra are both equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, with the slightly better Plus variant being installed in the more expensive Ultra model. These are high-end chips from this year. In keeping with the higher price, there is also 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
battery and camera
The performance makes it clear which devices belong to the upper class. The same pattern can also be seen with the battery. The Edge 30 and 30 Neo both come as cheaper devices, each with a 4,020 mAh battery that charges quickly with 33 watts. The Pro model has 4,800 mAh with 68 watts of fast charging, the Edge 30 Fusion has a 4,400 mAh battery with 33 watts of fast charging.
The Edge 30 Ultra is more impressive, because the battery here is 4,610 mAh and can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in just around half an hour with a whopping 125 watts. And it is also generally apparent that the Ultra model with its additional features, such as the high-quality, matte back or the Dolby Atmos speakers, is really Ultra.
The camera is stranger: the more expensive Edge 30 Fusion comes with three lenses, just like the base model; the combination here is 50 MP main camera + 13 MP wide-angle camera + 2 MP depth sensor, while the wide-angle camera in the basic model has a significantly higher resolution of 50 MP. The same combination (i.e. 50 MP + 50 MP + 2 MP) can also be found in the Pro model.
The cheapest model, i.e. the Edge 30 Neo, only comes with two cameras, although the main lens has a resolution of 64 MP and the wide-angle camera has a resolution of 13 MP. The combination of cameras in the Ultra model is unique: the main camera has a whopping 200 megapixels, a wide-angle lens with 50 MP and a telephoto lens with a resolution of 13 MP.
Prices and Availability
Good news: All five devices are already available in Germany. Motorola charges 399 dollars for the cheapest Edge 30 Neo, the basic model without the suffix costs 449 dollars. Then comes the Edge 30 Fusion for 599 dollars, the Edge 30 Pro for 799 dollars and finally the Edge 30 Ultra, for which Motorola charges a whopping 899 dollars.
There are lots of different color options. The Edge 30 Ultra is available in black and white, with the Pro model replacing the black with a green-blue color. The Edge 30 Fusion is black, white and blue (as vegan leather). The base model comes in black, white, silver and green; These options are also available on the Edge 30 Neo, although there is also a light green color variant.
