News culture Movie fans, here are 8 films to see in March 2024
The month of March not only rhymes with “sleet”, but also with “big film screenings”: for once, the next few weeks are not the closest to blockbusters (which isn’t really a bad thing), but they do hold the potential for good surprises on a more personal level, even Author’s cinema. And that’s cool!

Siegfried’s notebooks
If the war has traumatized more than one, it has also provoked the creativity of many literary figures: we can cite, for example, a certain JRR Tolkien, but also Siegfried Sassoon, one of the greatest British poets of the 20th century, whose participation in the First World War was not without consequences. Back from the front and somewhat affected by the horrors he had experienced, but also by this patriotic duty that he had to fulfill without really understanding it, he was dismissed by his hierarchy. With his pen in hand, he then begins a very personal reconstruction in which love, psychological healing, truth and beautiful prose come together: “The Notebooks of Siegfred” is primarily carried by Terence Davies, a real guarantee of quality as the Englishman has already produced notable works such as The Deep Blue Sea, Sunset Song and even Emily Dickinson. There’s a good chance this new story will be poignant, as the filmmaker is an expert in feature films that deal with emotional pain and everything that follows.

Holly
Holly is not a girl like the others: She has the uncanny ability to heal others both mentally and physically. This quickly gained her notoriety in her community, even though she was rejected by her classmates as a high school student; Very quickly everyone is asking about it… and the line between abuse and asking for help, however sincere, becomes blurred.

Happy winners
Who has never fallen asleep and imagined what they would do after winning the lottery? “Happy Winners” tells the adventures of several winners: a family, a homeless man, a single woman and other profiles miraculously find each other and pocket huge sums of money. Except that there are always a few problems with money and ultimately everyone finds themselves in more or less unhappy, more or less burlesque situations. Make no mistake, we are not dealing with a condensed popular comedy, but rather another satirical comedy whose intertwining stories promise to be intense, crazy and funny, and which is also led by a large French cast. Actually it looks pretty cool.
- Cinema release: March 13, 2023
- director : Mainly Govare and Romain Choay
- With : Audrey Lamy, Fabrice Eboué, Anouk Grinberg
The sweet east
Be careful, a small nugget is in sight. “The Sweet East” is definitely not a work like any other and there is no doubt that the trailer should set the tone for you: here, It’s about exposing American society through the eyes of Lillian, a young high school student who runs away during a school trip, crossing cities and populations. There she meets funny crazy people, some amusing, others lovable, others just dangerous and, above all, she becomes aware of the social inequality of her own country with all its fragilities. : To back up his words, Sean Price Williams (who was already signed to the atypical Eyes Find Eyes in 2011) chose a very special photography with a precise image format and filter, stirring music and a vision that puts everything into an urban version Alice in Wonderland seems to transform. We also have some pretty names on the program too, so it’s all good.
- Cinema release: March 13, 2023
- director : Sean Price Williams
- With : Talia Ryder, Simon Rex, Earl Cave
Immaculate
A horror film set against the backdrop of the Catholic religion in a monastery? A formula we’ve seen time and time again, you’ll tell us, and you’re clearly right. However, “Immaculée” is perhaps a little different from the others, as the plot doesn’t really seem to focus on the supernatural and another crazy demon from the Ciboulot, but rather on the secret madness that dominates all the life of this tormented ecclesiastical Italian woman secrets. We then follow the (sad?) fate of Cecilia, a young American nun who settles in a somewhat strange monastery, where she also becomes pregnant and living together is a little stressful. A little. We won’t be spared a few traditional jump scares, but the film promises some interesting psychological pressure and also some nice shots directly inspired by the great paintings of the Italian Renaissance (with a little Heredity touch that we don’t dislike). In addition, everything is worn by Sydney Sweeney, a major star of the moment who we have already seen in Euphoria or The White Lotus. Maybe a nice surprise.

- director : Michael Mohan
- With : Sydney Sweeney, Simona Tabasco, Alvaro Morte
No waves
Good old François Civil (who is obviously not that old) is back in Pas de vaguees, a film with a poignant atmosphere in which he stars a young, dynamic and determined teacher who is keen to build a bond with his students. But one day his speech is misinterpreted and a student accuses him of harassment : Since then, everything has collapsed, not only for the student in question, who is a priori convinced that she was attacked by her teacher, but also for the student, who then finds herself in an extremely unfortunate situation. Slowly the pressure is building at all levels and the atmosphere is becoming anxious: a solution must be found and there is a risk that it will cost a lot. Note that the film comes from Teddy Lussi-Modeste, the man behind The Price of Success with Tahar Rahim in 2017.

- director : Teddy Lussi-Modeste
- With : François Civil, Shaïn Boumedine, Mallory Wanecque
Kung Fu Panda 4
It was in 2008 when DreamWorks first offered Kung-Fu Panda: now we are fifteen years later with the release of a fourth installment and clearly we have a good atmosphere here that can only do us good in this rainy weather clearly has no intention of disappearing. This is how we find Po, our panda-turned-dragon-warrior, preparing to become the spiritual chef of the Valley of Peace, despite his constant desire to eat almost everything: Above all, he must face Chameleone, a formidable opponent who dwarfs the skills and appearance of his enemies and is accompanied by a real army. Po therefore has to form his own team and overcome adversity: a good-natured action-adventure film with effective outlets and a warm atmosphere, which was also directed by the directors of “Shrek 4” and “The Great Lego Adventure 2”, among others.

The Queen’s Game
It’s not easy being a queen, especially when the current monarchy has already stoned or beheaded all of your new husband’s exes: Here Alicia Vikander slips into the skin of Catherine Parr, the new lady of King Henry VIII (Jude Law) in the mid-16th century, who has to find her way between betrayals, conspiracies and power grabs in a crucial historical era for her in England then. A real adversity between the King and his court and the encounter with the Queen and her ladies-in-waiting in a historical thriller that promises to be captivating: In addition, “The Queen’s Game” was selected at both the recent Cannes Film Festival and the Deauville American Film Festival, which is rather reassuring. See you on March 27, 2023 to delve deeper into this ruthless British family.
