The brawler MultiVersus had an extremely successful start, but quickly lost numerous players. Now the developers are pulling the plug for the moment and taking the title offline for a long time. It will not return until 2024.
The initial hype surrounding the multiplayer platform fighter MultiVersus has subsided noticeably – and now the brawler from Warner Bros. and Player First Games is saying goodbye for the moment.
As the two companies have announced, MultiVersus will be pulled from digital stores and offline on April 4th. In June, the title should then finally no longer be playable for the moment; Updates are also paused.
However, MultiVersus will not disappear completely, rather they want to take the necessary time to help the title to a relaunch, which is planned for early 2024. The game’s temporary end was confirmed by Tony Huynh, co-founder and CEO of Player First Games, on the official website.
It is also the first update with fresh information about the game since last November. At that time, a fresh character was released with Marvin at the start of Season 2. Since then, the remaining players of the brawler have initially been left in the dark as to how this will continue.
Now the CEO says: “We know that there is still a lot of work to be done. As a result, we now have a clearer view of what we need to focus on and specifically also with regard to the content rhythm of new characters, maps and game modes, to give you more ways to enjoy the game – alongside an overhauled netcode and other matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be redesigning the progression system based on your feedback and exploring new ways to connect with your friends in-game. “
And further: “To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus open beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we will be pausing updates and taking the game offline while we prepare for the launch of Prepare for MultiVersus, which we intend to launch in early 2024.”
Between June and early 2024, players will only have access to the game’s offline modes, i.e. local Maths and The Lab training room.
