There is no doubt that, despite all the years that have passed since its end, Naruto remains one of the most important shonen of recent times. Masashi Kishimoto managed to capture the world’s attention with a story full of emotion, memorable moments, and outstanding characters. However, it seems that the author has some regrets about certain decisions he made during the series.
In a recent interview with a Japanese media outlet, they asked Kishimoto if he would have liked to develop any character further in his magnum opus. The mangaka was clear in his answer: he would have liked to delve much deeper into the story and background of Sakuraspecifically in the relationship with his parents, who barely made an appearance in the series.
“Yes, Sakura, she’s the only one who didn’t have the right to see her parents drawn, I did it for the movie format but never in the original format, I wanted to do it but I missed the chance and it was too difficult to make them interfere in the plot towards the middle/end of the story.”
According to the author, the only time we were able to see Sakura’s parents was in the movie Road to Ninja: Naruto the Moviewhere Kizashi and Mebuki officially appeared. However, this presentation lacked depth, since up until that point we knew nothing about them.
If there’s one thing Naruto could be considered a “failure” in, it would be in the development of some of the secondary characters. Rock Lee, Sakura herself, Tenten or Shino Aburame are some of the characters who had tremendous potential but were wasted. Even so, many of them have gained a legion of fans around the world and continue to be an example to follow for many fans.
