Not only Microsoft has recently been attracting attention by buying other studios, 2K Games has now also struck – and that should also help the NBA 2K basketball series in the future.
As has now been officially confirmed in a press release, 2K and the associated developer studio Visual Concepts have now taken over the games division of HookBang, based in Austin, Texas in the USA. The studio will now be integrated into Visual Concepts, the studio responsible for the successful NBA 2K series. Financial details were initially not known in this context.
Visual Concepts, which already has branches in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles and Orange County, California, as well as Vancouver, Seoul, Shanghai and Budapest, will also be represented in Texas in the future. Hundreds of new developers are to be added to the workforce there, and in the future they will also be involved in NBA 2K and 2K’s expanding publishing business. For the other offshoots of the basketball series, in the future it can only mean: bigger, more extensive, better!
HoogkBang was founded in 2021 as a collective of programmers, artists and designers who offer a complete software design and development service for brands, agencies and technology companies. As part of a partnership with Visual Concepts, the company was already involved in the creation of the current NBA 2K21 and contributed graphics, designs and support for the software development. In the future, this will be the main task as an incorporated subsidiary of 2K.
Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, is pleased and confirms that NBA 2K will continue to be a mainstay in the 2K portfolio in the years to come: “NBA 2K is an important part of 2K’s publishing business, a size in the entire video game industry as well as a fixture in global pop culture. We have invested heavily in NBA 2K over the years and have taken it to new heights. HookBang has worked with us on NBA 2K over the past few years and we’re excited to announce it welcome a talented team to the Visual Concepts family. “
