What’s next for Electronic Arts’ long-running racing game brand Need for Speed? There may be a new installment in the franchise as early as this fall.
After Dragon Age 4 and a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, insider Tom Henderson has now also spoken out about a potential new Need for Speed - and according to him the chances are not bad at all.
After Ghost Games developed four parts of the long-running franchise, the series is now back in the hands of Criterion Games. The original NfS makers had had to help out on other EA projects over the past few years, most recently DICE on Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042. Even Star Wars Battlefront was once involved – but now it’s apparently going back the roots, in other words: need for speed.
The franchise was initially shelved in favor of other projects, but now the next project is picking up speed again. EA had already confirmed further work on the series as part of EA Play 2020 – and now it could be faster than you might think.
Work on the new Need for Speed almost came to a standstill last summer due to the help regarding Battlefield 2042, but things are now making good progress again and according to Henderson, a release in September or October 2022 is even conceivable.
It remains to be seen whether the renowned insider will be right with this statement. In this case, too, we will of course keep you up to date!
