news culture Netflix canceled many series in 2022. A reason to unsubscribe?
Within a few years, Netflix is a service that has become absolutely essential in vacation homes. It is a reality, there are more and more families who only watch TV sporadically (if at all), preferring to be content with films, series and documentaries broadcast on video-on-demand platforms. . Unfortunately, the number of programs is exploding and sometimes there are decisions that go against the subscribers. As is so often the case, the audience is the focus of concern…
Some time ago, the appearance of a series on Netflix usually coincided with the opportunity to watch at least two seasons. But that was before. The pandemic is here, investment is ever more important, and it’s enough for a show to be coldly received to see its future threatened in the weeks that follow.
Destiny, in the Winx saga
The news fell last November. After two seasons brought together a great community, Netflix has decided not to sign up for a third season. Adapted from the Winx Club series, Destiny: The Winx Saga follows the daily lives of teenage girls fighting the forces of evil in a fairy school. When it was released, it gained a lot of fans (twice in the top 10) and everyone was expecting a third season, especially since the second ended on a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, Bloom, Stella, Aisha, Terra, and Musa will not be returning. A petition has been launched to delay the decision, but the 123,000 signatures are unlikely to be enough to motivate Netflix. It was a blow to its director, Brian Young, but also to the actors.
Hello everybody ! I don’t have any fun news for you, but Netflix has decided that there will be no season 3 of the Winx saga. It’s especially hard (to take) because I know how many of you loved this season 2.
Archive 81
For a while we thought Archive 81 would be Netflix’s new phenomenon, but the soufflé fell very quickly. Mixing the supernatural and horror, this series, signed by The Boys producer and screenwriter, is a television retelling of a hit 2018 podcast. Archive 81 is a thriller that ranges between the mysticism of a Blair Witch Project and the sci-fi of a Blair Witch Project Shutter Island travels. The plot tells the journey of Dan Turner, a New York archivist specializing in the restoration and digitization of old tapes. One day he is hired by a wealthy entrepreneur to bring damaged tapes back to life. Then he discovers the documentary of a named Melody Pendras and will fall into a nightmare. Carried by a very good cast, Archive 81 ended on a huge cliffhanger… but will remain unfinished.
The Midnight Club
The Midnight Club was released last October and is only entitled to a single season. Again, heartbreak is total for the fans who have fallen in love with the residents of Brightcliffe Hospice. Set in 1994, the story focuses on a group of young people stricken with the disease who engage in a strange ritual: the Midnight Club. Every night around midnight they meet in the library of their medical facility and have fun scaring each other by telling scary stories. While the other residents are sleeping, the group (all dead) breaks the curfew and decides to make a pact: whoever dies first must send a sign to the others. Despite receiving positive reviews and a good audience, The Midnight Club is being overtaken by other series, pushing Netflix to put an end to it. Awful.
If this trio regularly pops up in discussions, we might as well mention that How to raise a superhero which ends after two seasons or career plan after one season. But of course there is much more.
