When he’s not spending his time looting masterpieces of Japanese animation, the giant Netflix is attacking the video game market. And what could be more obvious than being able to afford the services of trustworthy industry players? Nothing a priori.
The streaming platform has therefore just recruited Amir Rahimi as vice president of the development studios. The person who started his career as a tester at Electronic Arts before climbing the career ladder to producer had specialized in mobile games since 2011 through Zynga and founded the TapZen studio. After two years as president of Scopely, a studio mainly dedicated to adapting board games to smartphones, he officially joins the giant Netflix.
Video game Netflix?
Rahimi used his first day as Vice President to clarify the challenges of his new position in a message Latest profile LinkedIn :
Today was my first day as Head of Game Studios at Netflix. This post will take me away from the development process (which I really like), but it does give me a chance to validate games that put player enjoyment above anything else.
(no more monetization stress!) and maybe (hopefully) play a small role in shaping the future of this industry. I’m excited to start!
For now (and as a reminder), only five games are available on the streaming service (Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up), but the offering should obviously be under the maestro’s wand, which is for sorting is responsible for expanding.
Straight to you
Unsurprisingly, Mike Verdu (Amir Rahimi’s new manager who just hired a few months ago) welcomed the arrival of his new employee:
I’m excited to welcome Amir to Netflix, where he will develop our game studio and library for Netflix Games. His experience in the industry will be decisive for our development.
If the Netflix Games catalog is still very thin, the American giant has already embarked on a buyout strategy, starting with that of Night Shcool Studio, the developers of Oxenfree. Everything remains to be done, as the other would say.
