In light of Embracer’s closure of Onoma (formerly Square Enix Montreal), Bloomberg Jason Schreier on Twitter Let everyone know the current situation. Some Onoma staff will move to Eidos Montreal, which has already canceled the upcoming Stranger Things title.
However, the news wasn’t entirely doom and gloom, as Schreier then mentioned what Eidos Montreal is currently doing. In addition to new IP and co-development partnerships with Xbox (including Fable), Eidos Montreal is reportedly working on a new Deus Ex game.
So far, the title is said to be in a “very early” stage of development, according to Schreier.
Intact Eidos Montreal cancels the recently rumored Stranger Things-inspired “Kids on Bikes” game. They are now working on:
1) A new IP (recently reranged)
2) A new Deus Ex (very, very early)
3) Co-developed with Xbox including Fable– Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) November 1, 2022
Just a few months ago, back in August, Jeff Grub also talked about Deus Ex making a comeback via GamesRadar. During the discussion, Grubb shared, “The rumble I heard was that the studio wanted to be in Deus Ex right away. They wanted to go back to that state right away. They wanted a challenge — they wanted to do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t do. Things, that sort of thing. That’s the word. We’ll see if that happens.”
Of course, this is all taken with a pinch of salt, Grubb himself said, “It’s too early, like what that’s going to be. But under Square Enix right now, this kind of conversation is impossible to start. Bar?”
Before Embracer acquired Eidos Montreal earlier this year, the development team was owned by Square Enix. With Eidos Montreal and the Deus Ex IP now in Embracer’s hands, it seems more likely that we’ll see a new Deus Ex game sooner or later, especially considering Jason Schreier’s reporting.
Quote from Schrierthe voice actor behind Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Elias Toufexis – said: “I’m glad they’re (seemingly?) committed to the new #DeusEx. Please don’t ask me again because I Nothing is known about it, or whether Adam Jensen will be involved.”
I’m glad they (seems?) are working on a new one #deus. Please don’t ask me again because I don’t know anything about this or if Adam Jensen is going to be involved.
I love this series and I hope to play Jensen again. I have zero information! https://t.co/CRaoRjJkzg

Considering the game is said to be in early development, we may have to wait a while to see any confirmation or further news about the game. Here’s hoping to get something out of it.
