The driving service Uber has released a new concept called “Uber Teens”. This means teenagers can get home safely and independently on New Year's Eve.

We usually end the year with a big bang on New Year's Eve. No matter whether old or young, almost everyone stays awake to witness the big fireworks display. However, teenagers in particular often don't feel like celebrating with their parents – they would rather throw their own party with their friends. Only the way home can be difficult, because who wants to stay sober on New Year's Eve to pick up the children? Uber offers a solution for young people aged 13 and over that can save parents a lot of travel time even after New Year's Eve.
The US driving service Uber now operates in 16 German cities. You can easily use the app to call a driver to take you to your destination. Until now, parents had to give their children full access to the app so that they could book trips independently – but this requires trust. The new “Uber Teens” feature changes that and parents retain full control while teenagers can book rides independently.

So that young people don't take advantage of their newfound freedom and spend a fortune on trips from A to B, parents can set a limit. There are also other safety functions: parents stay up to date thanks to a live tracking function and can follow the journeys in real time. In addition, PIN verification ensures that young people get into the correct vehicle. Plus, RideCheck technology notifies parents if a ride stops unexpectedly or veers off course.
An Uber survey found that about a third of parents spend at least two hours each week chauffeuring their children. Sometimes the time is even six hours. Over half of parents use the car for this. Uber Teens can also provide help in everyday life and save parents a lot of trips.
Uber availability on New Year's Eve
There are a lot of people out and about on New Year's Eve and the demand for taxis is usually very high. It can therefore sometimes be difficult to spontaneously get hold of an available vehicle. But you can plan and reserve trips with Uber up to 30 days in advance. If you or your children are planning to take Uber home on New Year's Eve, it's worth making a reservation early.
