What makes the new Star Citizen technology so special?
In earlier stages of development, level designers and environment artists spent several weeks designing a single moon in the Star Citizen online universe. Thanks to procedural generation and automatic tools, such satellites can now be created in a few days and optimized with comparatively little effort.
How easy it is can be seen in the video using a river, the course of which is automatically calculated based on the source of the water source. The slope of the surrounding terrain is taken into account. Optical details such as the river bed, stones on the banks or surrounding trees are also generated automatically.
What else is Cloud Imperium Games working on?
In the first episode of “Inside Star Citizen” in 2021, the developers also give a first look at major upcoming changes to the spaceship battles that were discussed at the so-called “Combat Summit”, a series of internal planning meetings at the beginning of the year. Among other things, ships should feel different for the player.
