WhatsApp can now do a lot more than just send messages. There are always smaller functions that make everyday life with the Messenger much more pleasant.
The latest feature that Meta is bringing to WhatsApp allows you to create custom stickers right inside the app. Unfortunately, this is currently only possible on the iPhone and requires the update to iOS 16.
Recently, however, there was a WhatsApp update that is available to everyone. You can find out what the new version has to offer here:
New WhatsApp update is here – that changes for you
How to create your own stickers in WhatsApp
With the 23.3.77 update you can use the new sticker function and no longer have to resort to third-party apps. The update 3/23/77 and iOS 16 are the requirements to get started.
To create a sticker, you use the cropping function of iOS 16, which colleague Patrick has already shown you in more detail.
If you want to insert a sticker in WhatsApp, proceed as follows:
- Go to the Photos app and select an image with a visible subject.
- Press and hold the object you want to extract from the photo.
- The motif is now outlined with a white stripe. So you can see exactly which area is cut out.
- Press and hold the design with one finger and switch to WhatsApp with another finger.
- Open the chat in which you want to send the sticker and let go of the free object.
Important: The update is sometimes not yet available even for people who meet both requirements. This is normal and will subside in the coming days. So if you can’t create stickers yet, you just need to be patient until the update is rolled out to you.
Since this feature uses an API from iOS 16, it is unlikely that this or a similar feature will be carried over to Android for the time being.
As is well known, after the 16 comes the 17 and with the iPhone operating system it is not too long in coming. In the article above, my colleague Patrick tells you why you shouldn’t expect too much of it. Will you use the new sticker feature? Would you like something similar for Android? Can you already use the function? Write it to us in the comments!
