It’s hard to say that Crusader Kings 3 is historically accurate. At the latest when we have eaten the Pope with our Nordic cannibal, all authenticity has disappeared. But in the upcoming update, Paradox is taking the next step to at least make the initial situation a little more historically correct: They erase the culture of the Visigoths.

Crusader Kings 3 Deletes Culture: But Why?
The better question would be: Why now? The Visigoth people have been a bit out of place since the game’s release. While Crusader Kings 3 begins in 867 AD, the Visigoth Empire has already fallen in the eighth century.
The culture originally came out with the DLC Charlemagne Crusader Kings 2 into the game series. According to game director Maxence Voleau, this made the Iberian Peninsula map very inaccurate, but brought some fun to the region. He made this statement in the patch notes.
This fun wasn’t a problem in Crusader Kings 3 for a long time until update 1.5 came out and cultures got a bigger role. »Since cultures before 1.5 were mostly cosmetic, it didn’t change the gameplay much. Even if the story was a bit distorted,” says Voleau.
With update 1.5, the large DLC Royal Court also came onto the market and was also convincing in the test:

Royal Court is the best reason to start Crusader Kings 3
Since the big update 1.5, however, the situation has changed, says Maxence Voleau: “You start the game, have a set of traditions that are changed so much within a few decades and events that you almost certainly have a radically different set of traditions and you can’t do anything about it.”
What will become of the Visigoths?
The Visigoth culture is divided into the already existing cultures of the Iberian Peninsula. But no worry: The Visigoth culture persists in the game data to remain accessible to modders.
What’s next? In addition to this change, there will be more changes in the “Castle” update as far as the Iberian Peninsula is concerned. For example, the world map will be changed slightly so that there are more regions in the Kingdom of Aragon. You can find the full patch notes here.
The Iberian Peninsula is getting so much attention from the development studio because the Fate of Iberia add-on is just around the corner. Like the free “Castle” update, this will be released on May 31st.
