CES in Las Vegas is full of surprises. Although Nintendo itself is not exhibiting at the trade fair, there is still a real highlight for fans of the Japanese manufacturer to discover: a dummy model of Nintendo's next handheld. It can be found in the expo area of the Venetian Hotel at the accessory manufacturer Genki.
This does not show the model publicly at the stand, but rather the model is used to demonstrate the accessories developed by Genki for the Switch 2 to potential customers behind closed doors. The company wants to bring a total of eight units onto the market – including controllers and a docking station. With a lot of persuasion, Netzwelt managed to get a glimpse of the dummy. We were even allowed to touch him.
Larger display, Joy-Con detaches from the side, C button comes
According to Genki, the dummy has the exact dimensions of the Switch 2, and even rudimentary functions such as removing the Joy-Con should work here like on the upcoming Nintendo console. The “Switch 2” feels significantly larger in the hand. The rumors about a larger screen diagonal are probably not out of thin air. The size is roughly comparable to that of the Lenovo Legion Go, which we were able to try out at IFA 2023 in Berlin. Accordingly, the Switch 2 will probably offer a display of 8 inches or even a little more.
If you detach the Joy-Con from the dummy, it can be removed to the side and no longer needs to be pushed up. However, they do not adhere magnetically to the dummy, so the upcoming handheld will probably also have a mechanical lock for the controllers.

Furthermore, the dummy at CES has an additional button on the right Joy-Con. This is not labeled on the dummy, but it is probably the new C button, and there are numerous theories online about its function.
What the dummy and Genki cannot tell us is the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, given the increasingly concrete leaks, it shouldn't be too long.
