NINTENDO SWITCH 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 could have a laser feature. This image from CES 2025 may confirm the rumor about the new handheld.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is already in the works and after Netzwelt was able to touch the dummy for the new handheld at CES 2025, there are now more pictures from the accessory manufacturer Genki.

One of the photos taken shows a detail that could confirm a completely new feature for the Switch 2. Unlike the controllers of the first Switch, the new Joy-Con apparently have a small indentation with a window.

Photo suggests laser in Joy-Con

The photo shows a rendered version of the Switch 2, on the basis of which Genki created its own accessories in addition to the Switch 2 dummy. The rendered video also shows a red light exactly in this black square in a different shot.

Apparently Nintendo's new handheld actually has lasers, as the mega-leaker already suggested. So there could actually be a mouse feature for the Switch 2.

The red light could be an infrared light that indicates a pointer function. This theory isn't entirely far-fetched, after all Nintendo is known for unusual control concepts.

Alternative applications for the laser

It would also be conceivable that it involves extended gesture recognition or is used to measure distance and depth. A connection with Nintendo Labo cannot be completely ruled out.

At least the right Joy-Con of the current Switch also has an IR camera, albeit only in a rudimentary form. With this and the craft sets from Nintendo you can assemble “Toy-Con”, for example a small piano. Joy-Con and Switch are integrated into the cardboard construction so that the built-in sensors can interact with the accessories you have made. So you can also play the piano I just mentioned. Classic crafting is mixed with gaming.

You will probably find out which feature is really hidden behind the laser when the Nintendo Switch 2 is released, and the release should take place soon.
