Nintendo is expected to announce the Switch 2 soon, but before then there has been a leak about the handheld's performance. The Switch 2 could potentially be comparable to the Xbox Series S.
In the forum Famiboards User Zachy provided more information about the performance of the Nintendo Switch 2. According to this, the CPU of the new switch should run at 1,007 MHz in docked mode.
Switch 2 is expected to achieve 3.1 TFLOPS
At this clock frequency, the Nintendo Switch 2 has a performance of 3.1 TFLOPS. If you compare this with known values from other products, then the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than the first Switch, which only achieved 0.4 TFLOPS. For PC gamers, 3.1 TFLOPS means the Nintendo Switch 2 achieves about a quarter of the performance of an Nvidia RTX 3060. This records 12 TFLOPS with the same architecture.
This means that a comparison can definitely be made with the Xbox Series S, because it achieves around 4 TFLOPS. With DLSS for the Nintendo Switch 2 there should still be some room for improvement graphically, because Nvidia itself shows how powerful this tool can be with a comparison of the RTX 5070 and the RTX 4090.
In handheld mode, however, the Nintendo Switch should only achieve 1.7 TFLOPS. It is also conceivable that you should only use DLSS in docking mode because the technology potentially uses a lot of battery.
You will find out how powerful the Nintendo Switch 2 actually is at the earliest when the Switch 2 is announced and at the latest when it is released.
